About this place ...

Saint-Matthieu

This mixed commercial/residential district of central Perpignan lies between the river Basse and the Palace of the Kings of Majorca on either side of Rue Marechal Foch, which has an ecletic selection of shops, cafés, bars and take-aways.

The part close to the canal is municipal building with some apartment complexes while the southern part is a grid system of old, historic town-houses.

Sadly the area seems to suffer from lack of renovation and investment. Even though the buildings are historical and there are a couple of nice squares with orange trees, it is mostly run-down and unkempt.

Positives
Considerations

Walking distance to the centre. Historic buildings. Plenty of local shops and bars.

The residential streets and the bars near them have a bit of an intimidating feel, especially in the evening. Lack of parking.
